1. Aim

   • how info is encoded in STM

2. Procedure

   • 75 Ps, four lists presented four times
   • Acoustically similar: cat, sat, mat
   • Acoustically Dissimilar: pit, day, cow
   • Semantically Similar: huge, big, tall
   • Semantically Dissimilar: hot, safe, small
   • Ps given words again in wrong order and they had to put in right order

3. Findings

   • Ps given acoustically similar- 10%, confused similarly sounding words
   • Recall for other lists: 60- 80%

4. Conclusion

   • acoustically similar recalled worst
     • acoustic confusion in STM
       • STM is encoded acoustically

5. Evaluation

     • eg. need to remember a short list, repeat to yourself acoustically
   • Lab Study
     • results replicated- become trustworthy and reliable
