1. 1. Creation

   • Written in Babylonian time
   • The first thing God said that was not good during creation was lonelyness
   • In the writing of creation on the day the sun and moon were created the author did not use the words "sun" and"moon"
   • After everything God did he said it was good
   • Some believe that this is not a story but a poem
   • God rested after creation

2. 2. The fall

   • Pain in Childbirth
   • labor for food
   • God did not destroy them after they sinned but seemed saddened and made them clothes
   • Caused pain and suffering and disease to enter
   • God punished the snake harshly
   • Adam and Eve were forced to leave the garden

3. 3. The flood

   • God regrets making the human race
   • Noah finds favor with God
   • Noah builds the ark out of gopher wood
   • In this time the bible says all of the heart of man was wicked
   • Noah gets to take his sons, his wife, and his sons wife on the ark
   • God will never flood the earth again

4. 4. Blessings of Abraham

   • Blessed with a son after wife was barren
   • Descendants will number the stars in the sky
   • Descendants will number the grains of sand on the beach
   • A King will come from your lineage
   • Had a son with Hagar when Sarah tried to take the power from God
   • You will be a great nation

5. 5. Jacob

   • Name means grabbing at the heel
   • Tricked his father into giving him the birth right
   • complete opposite from his brother Esau
   • 2nd child of Isaac and Rebekah
   • Mom helped him steal the birth right
   • Tricked Esau into giving him the birth right for a bowl of soup

6. 6. The exodus

   • Jews have been in slavery for 400 years
   • God hardens pharaohs heart
   • Each of the plagues God sent was aimed at a specific Egyptian god
   • Pharaoh was killing all the israeli baby boys at this time
   • Moses placed in basket at a baby, found by the princess and raised in the palace
   • The red sea parted saving the Jews but killing the Egyptians

7. 7. Exile

   • King Neb Was in control of Babylon
   • King sent Jews out of Jerusalem
   • At first Jews blamed God for this
   • The king only kept the wealthy, priests, and craftsmen jews
   • When the Exile happened a lot of the jews went into diaspora which means the dispersed
   • Before the exile jews were in captivity for about 48 years

8. 8. Post-Exhile

   • Cyrus the great and the Persians conquered the Babylonians
   • He allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem
   • Jews returned to build their temple
   • The jews were in captivity/exile for about 118 years
   • It is said that only a small amount of jews return when Cyrus allowed them
