  1. Alliteration
    1. What it is: It is the repetition of the same consonant sound in words occuring near one another
      1. The effect: Creates a sense of movement, atmosphere, tone and often speeds up the pace.
        1. Examples: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
        2. Onomatopeoia
          1. What it is: is a word that imitates the sound it represents.
            1. Effect: It creates a sense of realism or action.
              1. Examples: crunch, zap, boom, tick-tock, whoosh, tap tap tap, splash
              2. Similes
                1. What it is: an expression compering one thing from another using like of as
                  1. Effect: Creates a visual image that helps a particular tone, atmosphere or feeling
                    1. Examples: Your as smelly as a dirty sock, You look as hot as the sun
                    2. Metaphors
                      1. What it is: Comparing two unlike things without using the words like or as
                        1. Examples: He was a statue waiting for the news, I wish you weren't always such a chicken
                          1. Effect: "He was a statue" is to convey the sense of anticipation the subject was experiencing when waiting for the news
                          2. Personification
                            1. What it is: When a writer gives human quality to animals and objects
                              1. Effects: Creates familiar connection with the audience
                                1. Examples: My car drank the gas in one gulp, the picture of Jesus on the wall glared at me as if I did something wrong.
                                2. Hyperbole
                                  1. what is it: is an obvious exaggeration or overstatement
                                    1. Effect: Often to create humorous atmosphere
                                      1. Examples: I'm so hungry i could eat a hole cow
                                      2. 1st person Narration
                                        1. What it is: spoken from a particular characters form a personal point of view. It is subjective and provides a bias perspective.
                                          1. Effect: Makes the audience feel closer to character. It is more personal. The perspective is only filtered through one person's point of view
                                            1. It uses the words( I , Me, We)
                                            2. 3rd person Narration
                                              1. What it is: the story is told by a narrator or god like person. It can describe actions and feelings of all characters.
                                                1. Effect: You can hear everyones emotes rather then one persons, it provides multiple perspectives therefore has a less Bias perspective
                                                  1. It uses the words ( He, She, they) used in informational text types
                                                  2. Descriptive words
                                                    1. Said= interrupted, asked, shouted, whispered, replied, stated
                                                      1. Got= retrieved, bought, arrived, reached, grabbed
                                                        1. Went= Skipped, marched, ambled, clambered, plodded
                                                          1. Big= huge, large, massive, vast, enormous
                                                          2. Pun
                                                            1. What it is:it is a humorous play on words , often involving double meanings.
                                                              1. Example: Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana
                                                                1. Effect: Creates a light hearted, informal and often humorous tone/mood/atmosphere.
                                                                2. Symbolism
                                                                  1. What it is: is using an object or action that means something more than its literal meaning or in other words it represents something.
                                                                    1. Examples: Pink symbolizes the fight against breast cancer, The statue of liberty symbolizes freedom
                                                                    2. The porpose is either
                                                                      1. Entertain- for poems, jokes etc
                                                                        1. Inform- newspaper, info report etc
                                                                          1. persuade: ad etc
                                                                            1. Educate- textbook
                                                                            2. Tone= feeling
                                                                              1. Think of an adjective to describe the feeling/emotion created. Happy, humorous, sarcastic, scary, depressing, excited , tense, suspense, disturbing.
                                                                                1. Effect: Creates the feeling or atomosphere of a piece of writing.
                                                                                2. Other: Text type links to purpose, advertisements and speechs persuade, poems and narratives entain and things like textbooks/ newspaper reportsinform
                                                                                  1. 2nd Person
                                                                                    1. Effect: Creates a connection between the audience and the composer. It makes the audience fell like you care about them.
                                                                                      1. It uses the words ( you, your, you'll)
                                                                                    2. Rhetorical Qustion
                                                                                      1. Effect:Causes the audience to ponder (to think about) the concerns of the composer
                                                                                      2. Inclusive Language
                                                                                        1. What is it: Uses the personal pronoun 'we'
                                                                                          1. Effect: Connects the audience to the speaker. Makes them feel like they are all on the same level.
                                                                                            1. Example: We are glad to stand together
                                                                                            2. Anthithesis
                                                                                              1. What it is: Is when a writer employs two sentences of contrasting meaning
                                                                                                1. Effect: It emphasises the the sentence
                                                                                                  1. Example: When Armstrong walked on the moon it might have been one small step for man but it was one giant leap for man kind.
                                                                                                  2. Euphemism
                                                                                                    1. What it is: it is used to make something sound milder or it say something nicer
                                                                                                      1. Example: Your father passed away
                                                                                                      2. Irony
                                                                                                        1. What it is: is a type of sicasium
                                                                                                          1. Example: Oh what fine luck i had
                                                                                                        2. Oxymoron
                                                                                                          1. What is is: A phrase that contains two words that are contradictory (completly different)
                                                                                                            1. Example: Living Dead, pretty Ugly, Random order, Growing smaller and big baby

                                                                                                              1. What it is: the main character
                                                                                                              2. Rhyme Scheme
                                                                                                                1. What it is: Pattern of Rhyme amoung lines of poetry

                                                                                                                                                        1. What it is: a series of three parallel words, phrases or clues placed close together

                                                                                                                                                              1. What it is: It is the repertition of the vowel sounds to create internal rhyming within phrases or sentences
