PROCESSES OF EROSION
Hydraulic action - when water hits the bed and the banks.
Abrasion - The load that the river carries hits the bed and banks.
Attrition - When stones and boulders knock against each other, overtime weakening causing bits to fall off.
Solution - when the river flows over rocks which are soluble in rainwater
PROCESSES OF TRANSPORTATION:
Traction - Method for moving the largest material, its rolled along because its too heavy to lose contact with the bed.
Saltation - Small stones bounce along the bed, leaves the river bed in a hopping motion
Suspension - Means of carrying fine material in the water, it floats and moves along with the river.
Solution - Dissolved load
KEY TERMS:
EROSION - Sculpting of a landscape by for example, rivers by the removal of material.
TRANSPORTATION - Carrying sediment downstream from where its been eroded to where it is deposited.
