Leviticus 1-20

"God graciously provides a way for people to provide a way to live in is His presence"

Leviticus is set right after the exodus of the Israelites and their slavery and God brought them to the foot of mount Saiani and invited Isreal in a covenant relationship with God. The rebelled and broke the covenant.

"The Lord called for Moses from the tent"

God is "HOLY" -set apart, unique

If God is holy the space which is around Him is also Holy.

If Isreal which is unjust, dirty and un-holy wants to live in God's presence they too must be holy. Their sin had to be dealt with.

Most of this content is what we refer to as the "Levitical Code," in chapters 1-16. Please pay attention to the things that priests were occupied by, in their role in the Temple. What questions do these chapters raise for you?

Aarons son Nadab and Abihu were struck dead for were struck dead for exercising their priestly duties in a way that dishonored God

In chapter 9 fire came down from heaven, consuming what was left of the people’s sacrifice, at the beginning of chapter 10 fire came down from heaven, consuming two of Israel’s priests. From this day forward, every Israelite looked upon the priesthood as a very dangerous occupation.

The priests' role as mediators between God and Isreal.

Notice what is said, and how much (!), about sex and with whom men are "allowed" to have sex. What are the commands to women on this subject?

It says nothing!!

Exodus 1-15, 20-24, 32

Exodus 1-15

Please read about the plagues in Exodus 1-14 as if you are an Egyptian. What is your response or reaction to that part of the Israelites' story?

It frightens me for them. Having them being enslaved and ordered to drown all their sons in the Nile.

Exodus 20-24 is the Covenant Code - note which of the laws in those chapters you would like to see enforced today, in the USA.

Most people have never heard of the story in Exodus 32. What questions does it raise for you?

The first part of Exodus recounts how Abraham’s family ends up enslaved in Egypt. God raises up a deliverer to confront the evil of Pharaoh and to liberate the Israelites. From Egypt, they set out into the wilderness on the way to Mt. Sinai.
