Flashcards
Uses of organic ions
Cards in this deck (7)
- 1Inorganic ions inside cellsInorganic ions are found in solution in the cytoplasm and the body fluids of organism, some in high concentrations, others in very low concentrations.
- 2Hydrogen - H+(acid)Affets the acidity of solutions. H+ used in respiration to provide energy to make ATP. H+ used in photosynthesis to provide energy to make ATP.
- 3Iron - Fe2+/Fe3+Structural component of haemoglobin.

- 4Sodium - Na+Used in the co-transport of glucose and amino acids from the lumen of the small intestine, into intestinal epithelial cells. Also used in nervous conduction.
- 5Phosphate - PO4 3-Componenets of phospholipids, DNA, RNA and ATP.

- 6Nitrites and Nitrates - NO2-, NO3-Taken up from the soil by plant roots. used in making amino acids.
- 7Chloride - Cl-Used in regulating the water potential of the small intestine.
