1DOWNTON ABBEY
Downton Abbey is a [blank_start]representation[blank_end] of British [blank_start]aristocratic[blank_end] life in [blank_start]1920s[blank_end] Britain. It portrays a world of life in a [blank_start]country estate.[blank_end]
[blank_start]Wealth[blank_end] is seen through this programme through the titled family, the soundtrack being [blank_start]orchestral music[blank_end], the mise-en-scene with the suits and [blank_start]dresses[blank_end] for costumes. All these elements [blank_start]reinforce[blank_end] the stereotype.
Downton Abbey is [blank_start]aired[blank_end] in multiple [blank_start]countries[blank_end] causing it to be creating a [blank_start]stereotypical[blank_end] view of British life.
However, this is [blank_start]not[blank_end] an accurate representation as it is an [blank_start]air brushed[blank_end] version of British life as it shows [blank_start]poverty[blank_end] as being portrayed in a [blank_start]glamorized[blank_end] way, with no [blank_start]depiction[blank_end] of true poverty e,g, living conditions.
Due to this it portrays a [blank_start]'true[blank_end] idealization of British society.
This all [blank_start]affects[blank_end] how we see Britain and ourselves as [blank_start]history[blank_end] is part of what our nation is.- Arepresentation

This program is aired on [blank_start]channel 4[blank_end]
Benefits Street [blank_start]represent[blank_end] the people who are on benefits as people with [blank_start]problems[blank_end]. e.g. [blank_start]drug,[blank_end] [blank_start]drinking[blank_end], [blank_start]unemployed[blank_end] - Stereotype of a particular culture.
This program can be seen in a [blank_start]negative[blank_end] and [blank_start]positive[blank_end] way. This program is negative as we see people speaking in a [blank_start]"Chav"[blank_end] language. We are able to notice their [blank_start]Dangerous[blank_end] nature due to the [blank_start]rude language[blank_end] which they continuously use.
However, this program can be seen as [blank_start]positive[blank_end] as the audience are able to act better within their [blank_start]lives[blank_end] as they don't want to be on [blank_start]benefits[blank_end] through the [blank_start]evidence[blank_end] of stuggling seen in the program.
Benefits Street is a [blank_start]documentary[blank_end] as it provides [blank_start]real life[blank_end] footage with [blank_start]interviews[blank_end]. It is also [blank_start]Factual[blank_end] by using real locations and gives a sense of [blank_start]authenticity.[blank_end]
The [blank_start]technical elements[blank_end] include [blank_start]long shots[blank_end] --> To follow where the people go and the environment the live in. The [blank_start]editing[blank_end] gives us different interpretations from different areas of people in the same condition.
The [blank_start]purpose[blank_end] of this program is to [blank_start]educate[blank_end] the audience. To show the negatives and positives within the circumstances which they are in. [blank_start]Uses and Gratification theory[blank_end] = people create stereotypes as well as see them as a community.
