About The Pentateuch

Start with the book names

The quiz “Do you know the Pentateuch books?” is a place to begin. It lists Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy and asks you to put the books in order. Use it to practice recognizing the names and their sequence before moving on to a map.

The page also lists quizzes called “The Book of Deuteronomy” and “The Book of Numbers”. These offer ways to continue with individual books after working on the names.

Explore the mind maps

The page includes several maps titled “Old Testament”. One covers creation, the fall, the flood, Jacob and his family, the Exodus and Mount Sinai. Another includes Adam and Eve, the fall and later events. Their different selections give you more than one way to explore the material.

A map on Deuteronomy raises questions about dating and Moses. It mentions references to later events, language and style, and De Wette. You can use those branches to organize questions you want to return to as you study.

Use maps and quizzes together

After taking the book-names quiz, look at a map and note the names or events you want to remember. Then return to the quiz without looking at your notes. For Deuteronomy, follow the branches in the map before trying the quiz on that book. You can go back to the map afterward to review its points.

See the connection to the unit

The Pentateuch is one section of the Old Testament unit in Religion and theology. The broader Old Testament maps on this page let you look at Pentateuch material alongside other events shown in the unit. The flashcards and notes listed here offer additional formats for study. Pick a mind map and pair it with a quiz.
