About Reproductive System and Gametogenesis

GoConqr Original

What the unit covers

The resources follow the reproductive system from early development to mature tissue. Embryology comes first: the quiz Embryology of the Reproductive System starts with gastrulation and the germ layers. The flowchart HUBS192 Reproductive System Notes traces primordial germ cells from the yolk sac through oogonia to primary oocytes.

Gametogenesis

For the male side, the mind map Spermatogenesis describes stem cells, Type A spermatogonia and the basal part of the tubule. The note Spermiogenesis picks up where a spermatid turns into a spermatozoon. For the female side, look at the decks Oogenesis Postnatal period and Mature oocyte, plus the mind map Follicular development.

Histology and tissue

Histology is well covered. The quiz Histology of the Female Reproductive System asks about the cervix and the steroids the ovaries produce. The deck Reproductive System Histology works through uterine layers such as the endometrium and myometrium. Male material includes Histology of Male Reproductive System and the Sertoli cell mind map. Breast histology has its own group of maps and flowcharts.

A sensible order

  1. Start with a mind map such as Gametogenesis to see the whole sequence.
  2. Move to flashcards, for example Gametogenesis + Fertilisation, to learn the terms.
  3. Test yourself with a quiz such as Lecture 48 - Fertilisation and Implantation.
  4. Return to the map for anything you missed.

Maps give you the structure, and quizzes show where it has not stuck yet. Fertilisation and implantation, the placenta and sex determination sit at the end of the unit.

Where it sits

This unit belongs to the strand Endocrine, Urinary and Reproductive Systems, within Histology and embryology. Teachers can pull whole decks or quizzes into a lesson plan. Why not open one quiz now and see which topic needs another look?

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Try the Spermatogenesis mind map or the Gametogenesis mind map for an overview of how germ cells mature. Then move to a flashcard deck such as Gametogenesis + Fertilisation for the terms, and finish with a quiz to see what you remember.

What do the mind maps cover?

They cover spermatogenesis, oogenesis, follicular development, Sertoli cells, fertilisation, sex determination, the placenta, infertility and male ducts. There is also a set on breast embryology, anatomy and histology, so you can compare structure across several topics.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource on this page is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users rather than by GoConqr, so styles and depth vary between decks, quizzes and maps.

What level are these resources?

Almost all of them are aimed at university students, with a very small share at secondary level. Teachers can use them as ready-made material for histology and embryology classes, or as a source of quiz ideas.

Is there anything on female histology specifically?

Yes. Look at the quiz Histology of the Female Reproductive System, the decks Female (Histology) and Microanatomy: Female Reproductive System, and the Oogenesis and the Ovarian Cycle deck. Together they cover the ovary, uterus, cervix and hormones.

What if the topic I need is missing?

Check the neighbouring topics first, since many decks combine embryology, histology and gametogenesis. If you still cannot find it, a free account lets you save quiz scores and build your own quizzes, mind maps, flashcards and notes.
