- 1sternbergNot about quantifying knowledge, about how people use brains to apply knowledge and problem solve
- 2analytical-The first aspect was ‘analytical’. This is the ability to combine the most appropriate mental mechanisms/ components when applying intelligence to a problem.
- It is the meta-component of all intelligent behaviours, it is seen as the overseer, and it recognises and determines the exact nature of a problem.
-It develops strategies to solve the problems and it allocates appropriate resources to solving a problem. Also, the analytical aspect carries out cognitive processes that are involved in solving problems by assessing the successfulness of a strategy. The final aspect is knowledge acquisition. This is where you acquire and learn new information and you integrate it with what you already know - 3creative-Creative intelligence helps an individual identify when a problem is a new one, and so requires intelligent behaviour to solve it.
- 4practicalthe ability to make a ‘considered’ response to a problem dependant on the context in which the problem occurs, judging which response is likely to be the most appropriate in that situation or context
- 5sternberg-2 groups,
-comparison group taught normally, and other group taught triarchcically (best matched their abilities)
-those taught triarchically always out-performed the others - 6russiastudy in russia found that practical intelligence measures were better predictors of mental health in russian adults.
williams also found support for practical, but nothing else - 7PLTS-sternbergs research has led to RWA's schools now use PLTS (personal learning and thinking skills)
-it has only been around for 2 years, but it has helped students develop their own skills in a given area
