PROBABILITY
TYPES
- Empirical Probability: When probability is based on actual experiments. Suppose event E has happened. When experiment is performed, then
- Measurement Probability: When repetition of an experiment can be avoided for exact probability
- Classical Probability: Probability of an event denotes likelihood of its happening.
RANDOM EXPERIMENT
- Random Experiment may result in two or more outcomes e.g. (i) tossing a coin (ii) throwing a dice
SAMPLE SPACE
- Set of all possible outcomes of an experiment
EVENT
- An outcome of a random experiment or an event is something that happens
EQUALLY LIKELY EVENTS
- Different outcomes having an equal chance of occurence
Probability of any event can never be less than 0 and not more than 1.
PROBABILITY OF EVENTS
- SUM
- Sum of the probabilities of all events is always one. Suppose there are n events corresponding to a random experiment. Then,
- COMPLEMENTARY EVENTS
- CERTAIN OR SURE EVENTS
- Probability of such an event is equal to 1
- IMPOSSIBLE EVENT
- Probability of such an event is 0
- SUM
