1. Diffusion

   • Area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
   • Bromine gas can diffuse from one gas jar to another:
   • Ammonia and Hydrogen chloride gases can diffuse through a long tube.
     • • The ring forms nearer to the hydrogen chloride because ammonia is a smaller particle and therefore diffuses more quickly

2. Elements, Compounds and Mixtures

   • Element is made of 1 type of atom
     • e.g. Sodium (Na)
       • Hydrogen (H)
         • Carbon (C)
   • Compound is formed when 2 or more elements are chemically combined
     • Not easily separated
       • e.g. Sodium Chloride (NaCl)
         • Copper Sulphate (CuSO4)
         • Magnesium + Oxygen ---> Magnesium Oxide
           • 2 Mg + O2 ---> 2MgO
   • Mixtures
     • Mixture is two or more substances physically mixed not chemically combined
       • Easily separated
         • e.g. Air (Oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide, argon)
           • Sea Water (Salt and water)
