1. 44 theives

   • he interviewed 88 children. 1/2 thieves and 1/2 non criminal but emotionally disturbed
   • he interviewed their families in order to see if the thieves had prolnged early seperations when they were younger
   • bowlby concluded they were affectionless psychopaths
     • he found that 14/44 theives could be classeed as affectionless psychopaths. 12/14 had prolonged seperations for the first 2 years of their lives.
       • only 5 of the remaining 30 theives had seperations. out of the control only 2/44 experianced seperations.

2. bowlbys theory of maternal deptivation

   • seperation- when you are physically parred from an attachment figure
   • deprivation- when a child has formed an attachment, but then lost it due to some sort of seperation
   • privation- when a child has never had the oppertunity to form an attachment
