1. Short-term memory - lasts for about 30 seconds. This is why, when you look up a new telephone number, by the time the call has ended you have forgotten the number

2. Long-term memory - May last for the whole of your life time. When you ding the words of you favourite song, you are using your long-term memory. Although we often complain about how hard it is to learn thing, there is no limit to how much information you can store in your long-term memory

3. Memory problems - People with Alzheimer's disease suffer a loss of short-term memory. They may not remember what day of the week it is, but they can remember details of their childhood
