  11. 11A02: feldmanThere is evidence to support the theory of multiple intelligence. Feldman carried out a series of observations on school children. He studied 3-4 year old children in a natural setting in different scenarios. So that he could view different intelligences. He found evidence for kinaesthetic and intrapersonal intelligence using two different methods. This supports Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. He also found evidence for the other types. This study also shows reliability because he observed each child twice.
  12. 12A02: Douglas (2008)There is evidence to suggest that teaching using multiple intelligences improves academic achievement. Douglas (2008) found that teaching using multiple intelligences produced a significant increase in students’ academic achievements, social and emotional well-being. This is evidence that multiple intelligences exist. This is because logical, intrapersonal, and interpersonal are all responsible for endorsing the students’ knowledge in the three areas mentioned. Gardner’s theory is seen to be positive, the use of gifted in talented in schools values multiple intelligences, thus increasing the self-esteem of students.
  13. 13A02: Visser, Ashton, and Vernon et al. (2006)However, there is evidence which goes against Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. Visser, Ashton, and Vernon et al. (2006) studied 200 adults, where each adult carried out two tests for each intelligence. They found low concurrent validity for musical intelligence. They also found that the traditional types of intelligence didn’t correlate with intrapersonal, musical, or body-kinaesthetic intelligence. This study suggests that the five other intelligence types represent one core intelligence, according to Coleman. This contradicts Gardner’s theory in that he believes these intelligences are independent of each other.
  14. 14IDAThere is cultural evidence for multiple intelligences. Different countries value different intelligences. For example; Australians seem to possess logical intelligence, which is the same for most developed countries. India, on the other hand, have higher intrapersonal intelligence and Zambia more interpersonal. This could be because the country they live in suffers from poverty; for that reason, they have to be more in touch with their own feelings, as well as others’, in order to survive.
