Flashcards
Human heart
Cards in this deck (6)
- 1What is the structure and function of the semilunar valves?Located between the aorta and the left ventricle, they have flaps of endocardium and connective tissue reinforced by fibres. This prevents the valves from turning out, therefore preventing back flow of the blood.
- 2What are the tendinous cords?they are tough cords which ensure the valves do not get turned inside out when withstanding the great exerted pressure by the walls of the ventricles and arterioles.
- 3what is systole?when the heart is in contraction
- 4what is diastolewhen the heart is in relaxation
- 5what is atrial systole?when the atria contract forcing blood into the ventricles
- 6what is ventricular systole?when the ventricles contract forcing blood out of the ventricles into the pulmonary artery or the aorta.
