Flashcards
Organ Systems

Cards in this deck (12)
- 1Skeletal SystemHas a role in red blood cells, protection for organs.
system supports soft tissues and provides attachment for muscle; protects internal organs; stores and releases minerals; contains red bone marrow which produces blood cells; contains yellow bone marrow which stores fat.
- 2Nervous SystemDetects and responds to stimuli.
Nervous system helps to maintain homeostasis through nerve messages; and is responsible for perception, behaviour, memory and movement
- 3Integumentary SystemSkin - barrier for our bodies. Regulates our temp.
system regulates body temperature; reservoir for blood; protection from external environment; detects sensations; excretion and absorption; vitamin D synthesis.
- 4Muscular SystemUsed for movement and temp regulation.
system produces body movements; stabilises body position; regulates organ volume; moves substances within the body; produces heat.
- 5Cardiovascular SystemMoves oxygen and blood throughout the body and helps to cycle waste.
system transports gases, nutrients, wastes, heat and hormones; regulates pH and protects against injury. - 6Endocrine SystemHelps maintain homeostasis using chemical mediators in blood; helps regulate the biological clock, contraction of cardiac and smooth muscle, glandular secretions and some immune system activities; controls growth and development; regulates the operation of the reproductive systems.
- 7Lymphatic SystemImmune system - fluid through tissues and filtered.
System controls drainage of excess tissue fluid; transport of lipids from digestive system to blood, and immunity. - 8Respiratory SystemOxygen to tissues - external environment to tissues.
system provides gas exchange; helps regulate blood pH; contains receptors for smell; produces sound. - 9Digestive SystemBreakdown food and nutrients.
system controls Ingestion, digestion, absorption and defaecation. - 10Urinary / Renal SystemMaintains and eliminates fluid.
urinary system removes waste, regulates blood volume and composition; helps regulate blook pressure; participates in vitamin D activation; releases erythropoietin which stimulates blood cell production. - 11Reproductive SystemReproduction. System produces gametes and sex hormones.
