Why was Elizabeth imprisoned? Mary heard of a plot to get Elizabeth on the throne. She didn't kill Elizabeth though because Elizabeth was popular among the people and there was little evidence.
Why was Elizabeth named the heir? Mary agreed to make Elizabeth the heir because after Elizabeth it would fall into the hands of Mary who had married Francois. The French and Spanish were enemies so this would prevent Spain from obtaining the land.
Why couldn't Elizabeth marry a noble? The nobles would get jealous and erupt into a civil war.
How did Elizabeth change the Church of England? Took ultimate control of the Church (she was the Supreme Governor) Created the Anglican church Promoted church attendance on Sundays and holidays (A fine would be collected if the people did not attend church) Used the prayer books of Edward VI Clergy member had to swear an oath to the Queen Tries to bring everyone together
Tension between Spain and England? Spain was Roman Catholic and England was protestant According to Spain, Elizabeth was illegitimate Elizabeth encouraged pirates who plundered Spain's ships
What did Spain start in 1585? Spain started gathering a fleet of ships to attack England and take over Elizabeth's throne.
Who would the Spain put on England's throne if they won? Did they win? They would instead put Mary the Queen of Scots on it or Spain's princess Isabella. The English won.
