Question Answer
What are tissues? A cellular organizational level intermediate between cells and a complete organ.
What are organs? A organ is a differentiated part of the body made up of tissues and adapted to perform a specific function or group of functions.
What are organ systems? Group of organs that work together to perform one or more functions.
4 main types of tissues.
Epithelial tissue Tissue that covers other tissues and organs.
What is epidermis? The upper or outer layer of the two main layers of cells that make up the skin.
Connective tissue Connective tissue supports and binds other tissues of the body. Examples of connective tissue include adipose, cartilage, bone, tendons, and blood.
Muscle tissue Muscle tissue is composed of cells that have the special ability to shorten or contract in order to produce movement of the body parts.
3 types of muscle tissues cardiac, smooth, and skeletal.
Cardiac muscle tissues Cardiac muscles are the muscles of the heart.
Smooth muscle tissues Found in the walls of hollow organs (liver, small intestine, stomach, ect).
Skeletal muscle tissues Produces movement, maintains posture, stabilises joints and generates heat.
Nerve tissue Sends electric signals around body.
Functions of tissues in heart
What does vascular mean? Relating to blood vessels. For example, the vascular system in the body includes all of the veins and arteries.
What is vascular tissue? Vascular tissue is a complex conducting tissue, formed of more than one cell type, found in vascular plants.
The 2 vascular cells in a plant Xylem and Phloem.
What does Xylem do? Carries water from roots
What does Phloem do? Carries glucose from leaves to other plants.
