CLOUD COMPUTING

  1. DEFINITIONS

    • Cloud Computing is one of computing-structure and software model that can be access to share configurable resources
  2. MODELS

    • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
      • Providers use virtual machine to serve their subscriber from their cloud (Hypervisor)
        • This infrastructure would let the cloud user patches and maintains the operating systems and the application software.
      • Example : Oracle VirtualBox, Oracle VM, KVM, VMware
    • Platform as a Service (PaaS)
      • Usually the provider offer a development environment to application developers
        • Including operating system, programming-language execution environment, database, and web server
      • Example : Microsoft Azure and Google App Engine
    • Software as a Service (SaaS)
      • Users gain access to application software and databases. Also known as "on-demand software"
        • User can't manage the cloud infrastructure on the application. So it defy the need to install and run the application on the cloud user's own computers.
        • PROS AND CONS
          • PROS: Doesn't need maintenance and support
          • CONS: it might get overpopulated
    • Security as a Service (SECaaS)
      • The providers integrates their security services into a corporate infrastructure on a subscription basis more cost effectively than most individuals or corporations can provide on their own
        • So the security is served through cloud computing
    • Mobile "backend" as a service (MBaaS)
      • Web app and mobile app developers are provided with a way to link their applications to cloud storage and cloud computing services with APIs exposed to their applications and custom SDKs.
        • Type of services provided such as user management, push notifications, integration with social networking services and more
    • Serverless Computing
      • cloud provider fully manages starting and stopping virtual machines as necessary to serve requests
        • The payment method doesn't abide to per virtual machine, per hour.
  3. DEPLOYMENT MODELS

    • Private Cloud
      • Private cloud is cloud infrastructure operated solely for a single organization
        • It could be run by third-party either internally or externally
    • Public Cloud
      • The services are rendered over a network that is open for public use
        • It could* be free
        • Public cloud service providers operate the infrastructure at their data center and access is generally via the Internet
    • Hybrid Cloud
      • May use more than 2 types of deployment either private, community or public
        • The adoption depends to the data security and compliance requirements, level of control needed over data, and the applications an organization uses.
        • There's specialized model of hybrid cloud, which is built up to odd hardware
          • Cross-platform Hybrid Cloud
