Adam and Eve

  1. Crossing of the Threshold

    • Adam accepts Eve’s kindness “but I have noticed them now and then all day and I don’t see that they are any happier than they were before, only quieter. When night comes I shall put them outdoors. I will not sleep with them again, for I find them clammy and unpleasant to lie among.” This implies that he cares for Eve. He put the fish a way at night for Eve not to see. Just how a mom buys a new fish for her kid before the kid wakes up.
  2. Belly of the Whale

    • Eve eats the apple and the garden of eden is in chaos “-Eve had that fruit and death had come into the world. The tigers ate my horse, paying no attention when I ordered them to desist”
    • They find themselves in a new situation. They have to hunt for food. “We are now ordered to work for our living hereafter”
  3. Freedom to Live

    • Adam is no longer afraid of feeling emotions. He would rather be out of the Garden of eden but as long as Eve is with him.
  4. Refusal of Call

    • Adam denies Eve's Affection "My life is not as happy as it was.”
  5. Women's roles

    • Eve is described in the beginning as a “New creature with the long hair is a good deal in the way”
    • Adam is mad at Eve because she keeps naming everything. “The new creature names everything that comes along, before I can get in a protest.”
    • Adam is feeling overwhelmed and annoyed that Eve is on his every move. “I wish it would not talk. It is always talking. And this new sound is so close to me. It is right at my shoulder, right at my ear, first on one side and then on the other.”
  6. Crossing the Return Threshold

    • Adam discovers a new emotion. LOVE. “After all these years, I see that I was mistaken about Eve in the beginning; it is better to live outside the Garden with her than inside it without her.”
  7. Types of Archetypes

    • Serpent- shapeshifters (maybe the devil in disguise) (Deceives Eve: “the Snake advises her to try the fruit of that tree, and the result will be a fine and noble education.” )
    • Eve -The temptress (tempts Adam, gets in his way, makes him have emotions.)
    • Adam- Considered the herold and hero ( I advised her to keep away from the tree. She said she wouldn’t. I foresee trouble. Will emigrate. )
