Unit 3 LO 1.1

  1. Confidentiality

    • This is something which needs to be kept secret
    • Companies need to maintain confidentiality when handling data
      • This means that they need to protect the data from any unauthorised access, use, disclosure and inspection
  2. Integrity

    • integrity means something that can be trusted and therefore data that has been changed by unauthorised users has no integrity
  3. Availability

    • The data needs to be stored by the company correctly so that it can be available to those that need it and are authorised to do so.
  4. Ways of Protecting data from viruses

    • Free anti-malware software can be used to protect the PC from any viruses
    • Software can also be bought by users to protect the PC from viruses, as this software is more trust worthy. and more effective than the freeware software.
      • These would be bought by large companies as they don't want to take any chances which could eventually harm their reputation.
  5. Firewalls

    • They can be set up to block certain things such as IP adresses or access to certain web pages
    • They can be used to monitor the traffic on a network and monitor the users actibity on the network
    • It is good for a company as it can protect their network from external attacks
  6. Secure Passwords

    • These need to be made up off numbers, letters and other charecters such as hiphens or underscores to make them harder to guess
  7. Tiered levels of access

    • These need to be made to make sure that only authorised people can access certain things and have certain privileges, this is done so that a hireachy system is mainained
      • An example would be a school in which the IT Technician has the highest level of access as he can install programs which no one else can do, then the teacher has the second most as they are privileged to edit files on the exdrive however students have the smallest level of access as they can't edit files on the exdrive or download and update programs
  8. Encryption

    • This is the action of changing messages or files into a code which can be made up of random numbers and digits which only the receipient and sender will understand
    • Messages are encrypted because they can be intercepted after sending and authorised or even destroyed by people who want to harm the company
  9. Network Policies

    • These are a set of rules and regulations set by a business to their workers which the workers have to abide by if they don't want to face any consequences.
      • This can be like a rule which states that if a worker plays games at work or accesses their social media they can face the sack.
    • An example of a network policy is a Acceptable Use Policy also known as the AUP
