  1. RAM stands for Random Access Memory.
    1. RAM is the most common type of memory for hardware such as a computer.
      1. RAM is a fast temporary type of memory. It is how programs, applications, and data are stored. For example the operating system, applications and GUI are all stored on the RAM.
        1. ROM stands for Read Only Memory.
          1. Things saved in the ROM can not be changed by a program or user.
            1. Even when the computer turns off it retains the information. Therefore, the ROM is nonvolatile.
              1. The ROM contains the instructions of what to do for example when the computer is turned on after being shut down.
                1. Ram loses data when the computer turns off.
                  1. The RAM is volatile data because the content is lost when the power is switched off.
