- Types of EC2: On Demand Spot Reserved Dedicated hosts
- On-Demand: Allows you to pay a fixed rate by the hour or by the second without commitment.
- Spot: allows you to bid on whatever price you want for instance capacity.(Cheaper than on demand)once terminated, data is lost
- Reserved: 1 to 3 year term contract, 3 years offers highest discount (75% off on-demand)
- Dedicated host: A physical EC2 server dedicated for your use, allows for existing server bound software licensing(helps to reduce cost)
EBS
- Types of EBS: General purpose SSD Provisioned IOPS SSD Throughput optimized HDD Cold HDD Magnetic HDD
- General Purpose SSD: up to 10,000 IOPS with a burts of 3000 IOPS, balances price and performance
- Provisioned IOPS SSD: up to 20,000 IOPS, for high throughput workloads
- Throughput optimized HDD: used for big data, data warehouses, log processing(CANNOT BE A BOOT VOLUME)
- Cold HDD: low cost, infrequent access workloads, file servers (CANNOT BE A BOOT VOLUME)
- Magnetic HDD: Lowest cost per gb data, infrequent access(legacy)
