Performance

  1. Clock speed

    • What
      • The speed of the fetch, execute and decode cycle
      • Measured in Hertz
    • How
      • The faster the clock speed, the faster it takes for the CPU to reach RAM
  2. RAM

    • What
      • RAM is where all the instructions are stored
    • How
      • The greater the RAM, the more instructions and data can be stored while a program is running. This means the less instructions will be stored in the much slower virtual memory and will therefor improve the performance of the computer
  3. Core

    • How
      • A single thing running simultaniously
  4. Cache

    • What
      • Cache memory is a small amount of memory which is either inside the CPU or closer to the CPU then RAM
      • Cache memory is faster then RAM and more expensive
      • Cache memory stores frequently used instructions
    • How
      • If there is a large amount of cache memory storage, a greater number of frequently used instructions can be stored. This means that more instructions can be shared quickly, which will improve the performance of the computer.
