Chapter 6

  1. 6.1

    • Solving an equation for sine
      • use sinx^-1 and π-sinx^-1
        • these are horizontal opposites
    • Solving an equation for Cosine
      • use cosx^-1 & -cosx^-1
        • vertical opposites
    • solving for Tangent
      • use Tanx^-1 & π+Tanx^-1
        • polar opposites
    • always add +2πK or +360°K depending on your measurements used at the end.
  2. 6.2

    • Same as 6.1, but now we're adding something to change the result after we solve for it.
      • ex. divide the answers by 2 afterward or if we were originally solving for sec, CSC, or cot.
  3. 6.3

    • Trigonometry solving Priorities (this makes it easier to find the angles we're looking for, must have at least 1, but try to get as many as you can.)
      • 1. Only 1 angle (no sin(2x))
        • 2. Only 1 function (sin, cos, tan)
          • 3. Variable in one place ( only one side of the equation has x)
      • more tips
        • Only use division if you have an assurance that the divisor cannot be 0.
          • remember your algebra. b^2-4ac can help determine what the angle is if you get a quadratic-like equation.
            • remember your identities as they will also help you.
    • the thing sin/cos/tan etc. equals is what you plug into its inverse when solving (see 6.1)
    • multiple answers can sometimes smush together to form a function that is functionally the same, but looks different.
