About Trigonometry

GoConqr Original

What this unit covers

The resources on this page follow trigonometry from first ratios to more advanced identities. You will find notes and flashcards on SOHCAHTOA, the sine rule and the cosine rule, plus bearings and the area of a triangle. Further in, there are decks on radians, double angle formulas and compound angle formulae. Several items are labelled for A-level Maths, GCSE Maths, SAT and OCR A-level Mathematics.

Where to start

Begin with the basics. The Trigonometry Basics flashcards and the notes on SOH CAH TOA set out the three ratios. Then move to the Sin Cos Tan mind map, which shows how the ratios link together.

Next, work on the unit circle. The flashcard deck on exact values of the unit circle lists sine, cosine and tangent for angles such as pi/6, pi/4, pi/3 and pi/2. The Common Trig Values deck gives the same idea in degrees. The Unit Circle Labels quiz asks you to drag angle measures onto the circle, first in degrees and then in radians.

Rules, identities and graphs

Once the ratios feel familiar, try the triangle rules. The Law of Sines, Law of Cosines, and Area quiz asks you to find measurements and round to the nearest tenth. After that, the Trigonometry Formulas deck covers identities such as cos^2 x + sin^2 x, plus the sum and difference formulas.

For graphs, the notes on sine and the graph of sin(x), cosine and the graph of cos(x), and tangent and the graph of tan(x) are good companions. The Match the Trig Graphs quiz then tests what you have read.

Using quizzes and maps together

Read a mind map first to see the whole topic on one screen. The Trigonometry Mind Map, for example, groups functions, identities, rules and radians. Then take a quiz on the same area. Wherever you lose marks, go back to the matching flashcards or notes and try again.

This unit sits in the Geometry, Measurement and Trigonometry strand of Mathematics. Teachers can pick a mind map or a quiz to use in class. Open a quiz today, or start with a map and build your own flashcards from it.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the Trigonometry Basics flashcards or the notes on SOH CAH TOA if the three ratios are new to you. If you already know them, the Unit Circle Labels quiz is a good check, because it asks you to place angles in degrees and then in radians.

What do the mind maps on this page cover?

The Trigonometry Mind Map groups trigonometric functions, identities such as sin^2x + cos^2x = 1, the sine and cosine rules, Pythagoras' theorem and radians. Other maps cover secant, cosecant and cotangent, bearings, and the sine rule. There are over 180 mind maps here.

Are these resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr. If you want to save quiz scores or make your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes, a free account lets you do that.

Which exams do the resources relate to?

Some listed resources mention A-level Maths, GCSE Maths, A-level Mathematics, SAT and OCR A-level Mathematics. The material is mostly for school students, so it suits secondary-level revision. Check each resource's title and content to see if it fits your course.

Where can I practise the sine and cosine rules?

Try the Law of Sines, Law of Cosines, and Area quiz, the Cosine rule quiz, or the Law of Sines & Cosines quiz. The Sine Rule and Cosine Rule notes and the Sine and Cosine Rule flashcards help you revise the methods first.

What if I can't find the topic I need?

Look through the other formats, since a topic may be in notes rather than a quiz. You can also build your own mind map, flashcards or quiz with a free account, using the listed resources as a model.
