  1. Group 1
    1. Soft
      1. Shiny when cut(reacts with air to go dull)
        1. Reactions with Oxygen
          1. lithium + oxygen ---> lithium oxide
            1. 4Li + O2 -----> 2Li2O
            2. Need to be stored in oil
              1. Reactions become progressively more violent down the group
              2. Reactions with water
                1. Alkali metals react more violent with water
                  1. lithium + water ---> lithium hydroxide + hydrogen
                    1. 2Li + 2H2O ----> 2LiOH + H2
                    2. Reactions get progressively more violent down the group
                      1. Potassium creates heat as it reacts with water to produce hydrogen that then gets lit to produce a lilac flame
                      2. Reactions with halogens
                        1. lithium + chlorine ----> lithium chloride
                          1. 2Li + Cl2 ---> 2LiCl
                          2. Reactions become progressively more violent down the group
                            1. lithium reacts with chlorine gas to produce the salt lithium chloride
