DEFINITION
1. Inflamation of the tonsils
ADAPTIVE RESPONSE
1. Swollen and tender lymph nodes
2. Fever
3. Enlarged tonsils with exudate
MANAGEMENT
1. VIRAL
  1. Hydration
  2. Rest
  3. Pain & Fever Control
2. BACTERIAL
  1. Treat With Antibiotics
    1. Erythromycin (Medscape, 2012)
    2. Pencillin (Medscape, 2012)
    3. Clindamycin (Medscape, 2012)
3. RECURRENT INFECTIONS
  1. Surgery may be recommended (Tonsilectomy)
    1. Children with a recurring tonsillitis may benefit from a tonsillectomy (Huether & McCance, 2012)
