  1. originally called demetia praecox (premature mental deterioration)
    1. not related to dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality disorder)
      1. schizo is split between emotional and intellectual aspects of experience
      2. diagnosing is difficult no lab tests - based on behavioural observation
        1. DSM-IV to be diagnosed - deterioration least 6 months and 2 of:
