Atoms, Compounds and Isotopes
Atoms
- Mass number
- The top number
- Total number of protons and neutrons
- Atomic number
- The bottom number
- Number of protons
- Mass number
Compounds
- Chemically bonded
- Formed when atoms of two or more elements are chemically combined together
- Carbon+oxygen = carbon dioxide
- It's difficult to separate the original elements out again
Isotopes
- Isotopes have a different atomic forms of the same element which have the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons
- They have the same atomic number, but different mass numbers
- If they had different mass numbers, they would be different atoms altogether
