Zaretsky: Family Socialises
Children Into Capitalist Ideology
Socialises children into the idea that hierarchy and inequality is inevitable and fair.
Learning the norms of authority prepares children for adulthood when they will be
expected to accept orders from their capitalist employers in working life.
Eg. Children learn there is always someone
(usually male) in authority. Parents enforce rules,
such as curfew, and punishments if children are
disobedient, like grounding.
