Religion and Prejudice (2)
  1. 'God created man in his own image'- Christians believe this means we are all the same, and were created equally.
    1. Christians disagree about whether a woman has the authority to be a church.
      1. The Roman Catholic Church says NO to women priests.
        1. The Church of England says YES to women priests.
        2. "I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet. For Adam was formed first, then Eve"
          1. This is a Roman Catholic view. They use this to justify that men have a higher authority over women meaning they can't be priests.
            1. The Roman Catholic Church think women have other jobs to do, for example house wives and nurturing roles, but nothing with a higher authority to men.
              1. I do think the views of the Catholic Church are out of date because women now have roles that are just as significant as mens. Women and men deserve to be treated equally.
              2. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus"
                1. This is a Church of England (Anglican) view. They use this to justify men and women having equal job opportunities e.g. both being able to be priests.
                2. Tolerance means accepting all people and valuing their contribution to life and society.
                  1. If you are tolerant of others it is letting them express their opinion.
                  2. Justice is that all people have the same value and worth and equal human rights to live freely.
                    1. An example of justice would be: treating everyone equally no matter what their race, sexuality or gender.
                    2. Harmony means living in peace with others.
                      1. A Christian might try to develop harmony by treating others in the community with equal values.
