Flashcards
The Multi-Store Model
Flashcards do conjunto (11)
- 1How does STM encode information?prominently acoustically
- 2what happen to the information in the sensory memory if it is not attended to?if information is not attended to in the sensory memory it is lost
- 3if information is not rehearsed in the short term store what happens to it?if information is not rehearsed in the short term store then it is lost
- 4what happens to info that is not retrieved or recalled form the LTMinformation is lost is it is not retrieved or recalled from the LTM
- 5Hoe long is the duration of STMSTM start to decay after 3 seconds and starts to rapidly decay after 18 seconds and gone by 30
- 6whats the duration of LTMthe duration of LTM is possibly your lifetime
- 7how does LTM encode?LTM encodes semantically
- 8what is the capacity of LTM?infinite amount of information can be stored in the LTM
- 9what is chunking?Chunking is the process were you tie items of information together through meaning, timing, rhyme, rule etc...
- 10How does the notion of chunking weaken the distinction between STM and LTM?The notion of chunking weaken the distinction between STM and LTM as LTM has to be accessed for STM to know it's meaningful
- 11Why does the Multi-Store Model lack ecological validity?- The Multi-Store Model lacks ecological validity because we do not tend to rehearse things constantly in real life yet still make LTM's
- capacity is not clearly defined in the model as more item can be held is they're words rather than numbers
- HM learn't mirror writing and although he always forgot, he got better over time, showing that the model is too simplistic
