- 1Pilot studiespsychologists deal with problems like; flaws in their design beforehand or after conducting the exp by conducting a pilot study first.
- 2Pilot study definitionA pilot study is like a 'trial' run of the real exp.
The pilot study uses Pps that would be apart of the target population being used. - 3Facts about pilot studies1. it is a smaller preliminary study
2. the purpose of one is to check out standardised procedures and design before investigating.
3. they are a way of checking that details of the exp are appropriate.
4. a pilot study may indicate Pps don't understand precisely what they are expected to do.
5. they can be very useful when researchers want to decide between 2 possible ways of carrying out a study. - 4Exam question-Pps shown a photo in which a man and a women were talking.
-photo taken away and Pps asked about it.
-Pps were randomly allocated to condition 1 or 2.
-Q A: how old was the youth in the photo
-Q B: how old was the man in the photo.
-it would be appropriate to use a pilot study as part of this exp as the length of time to look at the photos can be decided, the timings can be changed if too long/short.
-check whether the Pps understand the Q's being and what they are required to do.
-ask a few Pps about their experience of taking part (if opportunity to ask it there)
