Flashcards do conjunto (11)
- 1Sutures Fibrous JointOnly found in the skull.
Thin layers of connective tissue that join the plates of the skull, formed in the first 18 months of life.
The edge of the joints vary: serrated, squamous and plane. - 2Syndesmosis Fibrous JointHolds collagen fibers or sheets of fibrous tissue to bone, arranged as ligaments or interosseous membranes.
Found in the fore-leg between the distal fibula and tibia.
They only have a small amount of movement. - 3Gomphosis Fibrous JointOccur between teeth and jaw bone.
Also known as dentoaveolar joints. - 4Symphyses Cartilage JointsCovered by fibrocartilage pads made of hyaline cartilage.
The pads cushions and allows limited movement.
Found in the symphysis pubis and intervertbral joints. - 5Synchondroses Cartilage JointsHas hyaline cartilage but form joints within bones.
Found ion the epiphyseal or growth plates in the end of long bones or jointed between ribs and sternum.
At the end of growth these plates ossify and form bone and become a symphysis joint.
They are immovable. - 6Gliding/Planar Synovial JointAllows movement side to side or back to front but rotation is prevented by ligaments.
The surfaces are almost flat, one is slightly concave and one is slightly convex.
Found between adjacent metacarpal bones of the wrist. - 7Hinge Synovial jointThese joints have one axis, like a door hinge.
They permit the movement in one plane - one bone is concave and the other is convex.
Found in the knee, fingers and elbow. - 8Pivot Synovial JointMovement is limited to rotation about a central axis.
One bone has a rounded end while the other has a depression.
Found in the fore arm at the proximal end of the ulna and radius- used when turning a door knob. - 9Condyloid Synovial JointHas a convex surface and bone that fits into this surface.
It permits angular movement up and down or side to side = biaxial joints.
Found on the wrist and knuckles. - 10Saddle Synovial JointHas two concave saddle-shaped surfaces that fit together.
They allow a wide range of movements.
Found only at the knuckles of the fingers and thumb and between the malleus and carpal bones of the middle ear. - 11Ball and Socket Synovial JointOne bone has a ball-shaped end that fits into a cup-shaped socket.
This is a multi-axis joint and has the great range of movement and can rotate.
Found in the hip or shoulder.
