RELATIVE CLAUSES

• We use "who" for people
• Jessica is my teacher.
• Jessica is from the USA.
• Jessica who is from the USA is my teacher.
• WHICH
• We use "which" for things and animals
• My phone is golden.
• I bought it last week.
• My phone which I bought last week is golden.

Fill in the blanks with "who/which"

• Do you know the woman ............ is talking to the teacher?
• The man ............ lives next door is very friendly.
• I don't like the stories ............ have unhappy endings.
• The dog ............ I saw yesterday was a pug.
• That's the poet ............ writes successful poems.
• That's the toy ............ my son loves playing with.

• We use "who" to make a Relative Clause if we refer to a person.
• A nurse is a person. She looks after patients. (Which person is a nurse?)

• They called a lawyer. S/he lived nearby. (Which lawyer did they call?)
• -They called a lawyer who lived nearby.

• My sister who lives in Australia has three children.

• The man who is wearing a red jumper is in the garden.

Give info about animals and things

• We use "which" to make a Relative Clause if we refer to an animal or a thing.
• We broke the computer. It belonged to my father. (Which computer did we break?)
• We broke the computer which belonged to my father.
• The fruit is on the table. It isn't fresh. (Which fruit is on the table?)
• The fruit which isn't fresh is on the table.
