Slides in this set (2)
-
- What does it do?
- see objects naked eyes can't
- help build small objects
- examine bullets in forensic investigations
- gather info about how microorganisms interact
- view bacteria
- view cancer cells
- How to use a microscope:
- move stage to the lowest position
- select lens with lowest magnification
- place the slide on the stage
- raise stage to highest position
- turn on light and look through eyepiece
- turn course focus until you see the object
- turn fine knob until you see the object clearly
- to see with higher detail, repeat with higher magnification lens
- Microscope facts:
- they use convex lenses
- cells were named cells by Robert Hooke as they looked like corks, tiny units of life
- Parts of a microscope:
- eyepiece - where you look into the microscope
- coarse focus - big knob

- definitions:
- magnification - the degree of which the size of the image is larger than the object itself
- resolution - the degree to which it is possible to distinguish between 2 separate points
- Formula:
- magnification = image size / actual size
