CURRICULUM
MODELS
It refers to and educational system that combines theory with practice.
Is has a theory and knowledge base that reflects a philosophical orientation and is supported, in varying degreed, by research and educational evolution.
TYLER MODEL
It is linear in nature, starting from objectives and ending with evaluation.
Evaluation is terminal
WHEELER MODEL
Commonly know as cyclic.
Similar to the Tyler's in that the initial set of aims, goals and objectives are taken for granted as given.
Wheelers asserts that evaluation of the programe should take place at every stage that is why it is called cyclic.
KEER MODEL
Keer divided the domains into four areas.
Objectives - Knowledge - Evaluation - School learning experiences.
The 4 domains are interrelated directly or indirectly.
Objectives are derived from school learning experiences and knowledge.
TABA MODEL
PRODUCT/OBJECTIVES MODEL
It is believed that behavioural objectives provide the foundations on which the product models of the curriculum are built.
The intended outcome of a learning experience is prescribed beforehand.
Advocates of this model argue that the use of behavioural objectives leads to more purposeful learning.
The model depicts process approaches to the curriculum as being open-ended.
Continuous development is emphasized and the outcome is perceived in terms of the development of certain desirable processes and potentialities.
Examples are ways of thinking, acting and feeling which the learner is able to use for his/her own purpose.
SITUATIONAL MODEL
Based on the assumption that the focus for curriculum development must be the individual school and its teachers.
School based curriculum development is the most effective way of promoting genuine change at school level.
Curriculum experts will go to improve the teaching of the subject.
Taba said that curriculum should be designed by the teachers rather than handed down by higher authority.
Teachers should start the process by creating trial teaching-learning units in their schools rather than engaging in creating curriculum design.
This approach is inductive.
PRODUCT/OBJECTIVES MODEL
It has 5 steps:
1. Produce Pilot units
2. Testing experimental units.
3. Revising and consolidating.
4. Developing a framework
5. Installing and disseminating new units.
