- 128th October 1918- German navy in Kiel mutinied
- The mutiny spread
- The soldiers that were sent to deal with the protests joined the sailors and workers
- In six days workers and soldiers councils were governing in places around Germany
- The Kaiser realised he had lost control
- His generals refused to support him - 29th November 1918- The Kaiser abdicated and secretly left Germany
- Friedrich Ebert was the leader of Germany's largest political party ( the SPD )
- He took over Germany temporarily
- He promised to hold elections and ended the war - 311th November 1918- Germany surrendered
- The first world war ended
