Shaun Leung Computer Science English 12 cards

Cards in this deck (12)

  1. 1Forward Error CorrectionAdding redundancy to the Frame in order to allow the receiver to correct the data
  2. 2Stop and WaitProtocol in which the sender does not send the next frame until it has received an ack for the current
  3. 3Go Back n SlidingSender sends a window of frames. Receiver sends ack for the next, in order, expected frame. Out of order frames are not buffered by the receiver.
  4. 4Sending Windowthe window in which frames are sent.
  5. 5Max Sending WindowMax=data rate (b/s) * RTT(s) / frame size (b)
  6. 6Selective Repeat Sliding WindowProtocol similar to Go Back n Sliding but t he receiver can now buffer out of order frames.
  7. 7Hamming DistanceThe number of bit positions the 2 sequences differ by. Haming distance can detect dist. -1 bit errors.
  8. 8Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC)Error Detecting code for r bits of redundancy. use r+1 generator. Uses checksum (code word) that is appended to the message so that the generator and the message create all 0 using exclusive OR
  9. 9Framing MethodA method that allows the beginning and end of a frame to be recognized at the receiver
  10. 10Byte StuffingUse a special byte to delineate the beginning and end frames. Replace naturally occurring special bytes with something else.
  11. 11Coding Violationsuse bits that violate the 8B/10B coding method. (8 bits are mapped to 10 signal bits. )
  12. 12Character CountsA framing method in which start frame informs the receiver of how many bits there are in the message.
