Flashcards

Mitosis

Becky Hoskyns Biology GCSE English 12 cards

Cards in this deck (12)

  1. 1What are Mitosis' three purposesGrowth, repair, Asexual reproduction
  2. 2Neumonic!IPMAT
  3. 3What happens in Interphase?G1 (growth phase 1), S (synthesis), G2 (growth phase 2). Mitochondria grow and divide, normal metabolic processes, chromosome replicates forming 2 sister chromatids.
  4. 4Prophase???Chromosomes shorted and thicken, visible. The centrioles move to opposite poles (via cytoskeleton) and the nuclear membrane breaks down. nucleolus breaks down
  5. 5Metaphase???Chromosomes line up along the equator. Spindle fibres form and attach to the chromatids.
  6. 6Anaphase?The spindle fibres shorten, pulling the chromatids apart. Now chromosomes.
  7. 7TelophaseNuclear envelope and nucleolus reform. cytokinesis. chromatids uncoil into chromatic.
  8. 8Cytokinesis?The division of the cytoplasm and cell into two by constriction from the edges of the cell. Two genetically identical daughter cells formed.
  9. 9G1Cell prepares for DNA replication, organelles replicate, cell increases in size.
  10. 10SDNA replication occurs in the nucleus
  11. 11G2Cell continuous to increase in size, energy stores increase. Duplicated DNA checked for errors
  12. 12G0Differentiation- cell becomes specialised, carry out function until death, doesn't enter cell cycle again. DNA may be damaged- no longer divide enter permanent cell arrest. Age- old= less cells able to grow and repair by division
