B2 - The Carbon Cycle

  1. Carbon Dioxide is taken from the atmosphere by plants for photosynthesis

    • Plants and animals respire, releasing Carbon Dioxide into the atmosphere
      • Animals eat plants and other animals so the carbon is passed through the bodies on the food web
        • Microorganisms feed on the dead animals and plants and release carbon dioxide into the air through respiration.
          • Organisms bodies get trapped under each other and fossilize (crude oil)
          • HIGHER CARBON CYCLE
            • Sea organism shells fall the the sea bed
              • They follilisze to make limestone
                • The underwater volcanos release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere
                  • Acid rain weathers the limestone and releases carbon dioxide
                    • Oceans can absorb the carbon dioxide from the air
    • When fuels are burnt (combustion) carbon dioxide return back to the atmosphere
