1. Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act

   • first act to recognise and give rights to people with disabilities

2. Disability Discrimination Acts 1995 & 2005

   • gives people with disabilites rights in
     • employment
     • education
     • access to facilities and services
     • make it easier for tennants to make disability related adaptions
   • public bodies have to promote equality of opportunities

3. Children's Act 1989

   • introduced notion of parental responsibility
     • refers to rights and privileges of child in relation to contact with parents/carer (foster care, Jordan)

4. Mental Defficiency Act 1913

   • proposed seperation of those with mental illness into seperate Institutions

5. Care Standards Act 2000

   • set minimum standards for residential care
