KING LEAR - Act 1 Scene 3

1. A short space of time has elapsed

2. Lear is now staying with Goneril

3. She complains to her steward Oswald about Lear and his knights.

   • She says that Lear has continues to act erratically, setting everyone at odds.
     • Goneril is determined to put a stop to this, 'I'll not endure it!... I will not speak to him' (lines 6-9)

4. Oswald hears Lear's return from hunting and Goneril instructs him to put on a 'weary negligence' (line 13) and tell the other servants to follow suit

5. She wants to provoke a clash with her father

6. Goneril leaves to write a letter to Regan.

7. Oswald is sent to prepare dinner
