Africa
Landforms: Atlas Mountains, Congo River Basin, Ethiopian Highlands, Great Rift Valley, Ahaggar Mountains, Nile River System, Sahara Desert.
Climate: Africa's climate is dominated by desert conditions along vast stretches of its northern and southern fringes. The central portion of the continent is wetter, with tropical rainforests, grasslands, and semi-arid climates.
Wildlife: Many animal species adapt to specific habitats, desert or mountains, but there are a number that are able to survive in a number of extremely varying habitats. Some of the better known of Africa's large mammals such as lions, elephants and leopards are found in habitats ranging from very arid to marshes and swamps. The Namib Desert in Namibia is seemingly one of the most hostile places on earth and yet it is home to numerous species including elephants and lions. These species have adapted to living under the extreme conditions where there is very little surface water available.
Economy: The economy of Africa consists of the trade, industry, agriculture, and human resources of the continent. As of 2019, approximately 1.3 billion people were living in 54 countries in Africa. Africa is a resource-rich continent. Recent growth has been due to growth in sales in commodities, services, and manufacturing. West Africa, East Africa, Central Africa and Southern Africa in particular, are expected to reach a combined GDP of $29 trillion by 2050.
Population: The current population of Africa is 1,361,596,563 as of Sunday, February 28, 2021, based on the latest United Nations estimates. Africa population is equivalent to 16.72% of the total world population.
