         • Physical: Convicted criminals who undertake a prison sentence face a number of physical problems, not least related to drugs. Drug use is extremely high in prison and offenders who go in 'clean' often come out with a habit. Depression and self-harm are also common among the UK prison population

       • Lack of Positive Role Models: Someone from a poor family background may have no positive role models. In some areas those who seem successful may be people who deal drugs or run gangs
       • Location: Some areas suffer crime than others. Research shows that the highest rates of crime happen in more deprived areas - which often have higher social problems
       • Greed: Greed is a temptation to carry out a corrupt act. This is often committed by people who are well educated and belive that they can get away with crime
       • Peer Pressure: Many people, especially young people, feel pressure to fit in with their peers
       • Poverty: people living in poverty may be vulnerable and more likely to become involved in crime. Crime offers a way for people in poverty to gain goods they can't afford
