UN programme after millenium development goals.

To reach targets for the next generation while going hand in hand with sustainable development

Few missing in MDGs such as No HUman rights,no mention for economic dev,suitable for poor countries,did not show a path for dev

Reducing resource usage and also energy initiatives

What are the main points?

reduce poverty in all forms

achieve food security

achieve sustainable infrastructure,energy

address climate change

sustainable management of water and sanitation

How is it helping countries?

It will help keep in focus of sustainable development

Can aid in technological advancement in clean energy,water management.

Can focus clearly on infrastrucute

Developed countries can focus on the goals as well

The list is too long and hard to conquer - reduce

if 1.25 billion people are in poverty,sustainable development is hard for them.

Challenges:

Governments feel it is too big number and unwieldy

Cost of implementing is high.cost of providing a social safety net to eradicate extreme poverty at about $66bn (£43bn) a year, while annual investments in improving infrastructure (water, agriculture, transport, power) could be up to a total of $7tn globally.
