Religious and non-religious worship
Worship usually refers to specific acts of religious devotion
To idolize: Love unquestioningly, excessively and uncritically
People pray to show worship because it is a way to speak to God with family and express thanks and love to God
Symbols in Christianity
I think people use symbols instead of words because it is easier to remember. It is more difficult to remember a sentence or two rather than having a symbol as a sort of prompt, so that the words can be remembered. I think symbols are more effective because it only takes a glance to see a symbol, so if you are say driving, it will be harder to read words than see a symbol. Symbols can be recognised by everyone of different languages.
Symbol
Meaning
Can be used to symbolise different things. God's spirit. Peace
Crucifix. Jesus' sacrifice. Forgiveness of sins. Recall Christ's death and resurrection. Most important.
Used to draw the fish so that Christians could recognise each other.
The chi-rho is made up of 2 Greek letters that are the start of the word for Christ, combined, they often look similar to a cross
God is the beginning and end of all things. Alpha and Omega.
Wine-blood of Jesus. Bread-Body of Jesus
