About Human Growth and Development

GoConqr Original

What this unit covers

The resources follow human development from before birth into later life. Prenatal material includes the mind map on critical milestones during the first nine months of pregnancy and the deck on prenatal development. Childhood is covered by the Child Development mind map, which splits development into motor, cognitive, language, emotional and visual domains. Life stages from infancy to later adulthood appear in the Health and social care revision mind map.

Where to start

  1. Open the mind map called health and social care. It separates growth, meaning an increase in size and mass, from development, meaning an increase in skills, abilities and emotions.
  2. Move on to Factors Influencing Human Development, which looks at socio-economic influences, socialisation and access to health services.
  3. Use the Child development flashcards to fix key terms and milestones.
  4. Read the notes called Growth & Development of an Individual for a written summary.

Conditions and their impact

A large group of maps looks at autism. Impact of Autism On Individual sets out physical effects such as difficulty sleeping and clumsiness, while Impact on Carers and Family looks at stress and fatigue for parents. You will also find maps on cerebral palsy, preterm and low birth weight, and Down syndrome. The Autism True or False Quiz tests common myths, such as whether autism is curable.

Using quizzes and maps together

Read a map first, then take a quiz without looking at it. Note the questions you miss and go back to the matching branch of the map. Flashcards then help you memorise the wording of definitions. For exam-minded students, some resources are linked to GCSE Health and Social Care, so check which ones match your course.

Where it fits

This unit sits in the strand The Human Body and Disease, within Medicine and health (other or general). Pick a map that suits your course and start from there, then make your own flashcards as you go.

Frequently asked questions

Which resource should I open first?

Start with the mind map called health and social care. It explains the difference between growth and development and introduces the life stages. After that, Factors Influencing Human Development is a natural next step, followed by the child development flashcards for revision of key terms.

What do the autism resources cover?

There are several mind maps, including Impact of Autism On Individual and Impact on Carers and Family, plus the Autism True or False Quiz and a note on five questions that can help detect autism. Together they look at physical effects, family impact and common myths.

Are the resources free to use?

Yes. Every resource listed here is free to open, study and take, with no account needed. They were made by GoConqr users, not by GoConqr itself. If you want to save quiz scores or make your own quizzes, maps, flashcards and notes, a free account lets you do that.

Which levels and exams do these suit?

Most resources are aimed at secondary and university study, with a few for professional candidates. Some mention GCSE Health and Social Care, so they suit students on that course. Others are more detailed and fit university-level study of development and health conditions.

Does the page include prenatal topics?

Yes. You can find a mind map on critical milestones in the first nine months of pregnancy, one on determinants of prenatal health and development, and a flashcard deck on prenatal development. There is also a map on preterm and low birth weight.

What if I can't find my topic?

Try the neighbouring maps and decks first, as many cover related ideas such as life stages, milestones and influencing factors. If your topic is still missing, you can build your own mind map, flashcards or notes and use them alongside the resources here.
